PLASMA NUTFAH

GENETIC BACKGROUND

PT Salim Ivomas Pratama Tbk (SIMP Group) through its subsidiary PT Sarana Inti Pratama (SAIN) made a strategic decision in 1998 to venture in oil palm breeding and premium seed production by the introduction of elite dura female and pisifera male parent palm materials from ASD de Costa Rica and OPRI of Ghana, derived from renown breeding populations and breeding centres of Southeast Asia and West Africa.

The base breeding materials have been selected and bred from a broad spectrum genetic base comprising Deli/African dura originated from Angola, Banting, Cameroon, Chemara, Dami, H&C, MARDI, San Alejo, Serdang and SOCFIN and African pisifera originated from Aba, Angola, AVROS, Calabar, Dami, Ekona, Ghana, La Mé, Sibiti, Ufuma and Yangambi.

SAIN has obtained Seed Certification from the Indonesian Government in September 2011 for four premium DP varieties : SAIN-1, SAIN-2, SAIN-3 and SAIN-4.

All the four varieties have since been commercially released to fulfil the need by the farmers and the plantation industry.
